In part 5 we talked about outbound links, quality of internal links, broken links, affiliate links, reading level, HTML errors, Domain Authority, and Page Authority.

51.Url Length

URL length matters in SEO. Long URLs look weird to users and definitely not encouraged by search engines. After A/B testing multiple long and short form URLs, we have found that short URLs tend to perform better than long URLs. You can look at our SEO India page to better understand URL strength.

52. URL Path

You must have heard that URL path i.e. Click Depth must be less than 3 clicks. We have seen that pages that have a click depth of fewer than 3 clicks with respect to the homepage tend to perform better.

53.Human Editors

Although Google has not confirmed this, there is an influence of Human Editors in the rankings on Google’s Search Engine Results Page.

54.Page Category

Page Category is a basic element of site architecture. Page Category is a ranking factor according to relevance. If a category page has content or posts related to it, then that page is highly likely to rank better with fewer backlinks

Category pages are optimized for eCommerce businesses as they tend to bring in a lot of sales with the right approach.

55.Keywords in URL

Keywords in the URL definitely help rankings on Google. It clearly indicates Google’s Algorithm about a page’s search phrases it’s trying to rank. 

Make sure your permalinks do contain keywords similar to Title Tag or H1 Heading. According to the SEO roundtable, keyword in URL is a small ranking factor. 

56.URL String

URL string represents the categories in an URL. When it comes to eCommerce websites there are subcategories and pages under categories. Make sure that you have a clean website architecture that results in a good URL String.

Here is an example of a good URL string that goes from page to sub-category to a category on a website.

57.References and Sources

Including outbound links to trustable sources, and research papers are necessary and regarded as a quality signal to Google’s Algorithm.

You must keep an eye on statistics websites such as statista.com to know the latest trends in your industry. However, in 2015 Google denied that external links have an impact on search rankings.

58.Bullets and Numbered Lists

Make sure that your content is broken down into points, bullets, or numbered lists. Users will find your content to be helpful if conveyed in points. This will help reduce bounce rates and is liked by Google.

59.Priority of Page in Sitemap

You can set a priority page in the sitemap.xml file of your website that may influence your rankings.

60.Too Many Outbound Links

Too many outbound links can negatively affect your rankings. Make sure that your website has ideal outbound links or just add links where it is necessary.
