Ranking Factors That Effect SEO : Part 5

In part 4 we talked about the factors that are related to content such as grammar, outbound link quality, theme, mobile friendliness, hidden content, and keywords in Header Tags.

In this post, we will be learning about external factors in a page’s content.

41.Number Of Outbound Links

There is a myth that you should not be linking to any new/non-established sites but that is a naive understanding of things.

An unnatural amount of Do Follow links can affect your rankings negatively. Make sure that you link to trustworthy sites or relevant pages that have link-worthy content.

John Mueller states:

“Linking to other websites is a great way to provide value to your users. Oftentimes, links help users to find out more, to check out your sources, and to better understand how your content is relevant to the questions that they have.”

42.Multimedia

Ask yourself when was the last time you read a piece of content without images or videos and found it helpful.

Multimedia like images, videos, and infographics can help your readers understand the concept visually. Also, pages with multimedia content tend to rank better on the SERPs.

43.Number of Internal Links Pointing to a Page

Lately, internal links have proved themselves to be a strong ranking factor. Many SEOs consider internal links to push up their main money-making pages to the top of Google’s 1st Page.

Internal links pointing to a specific page indicate to Google the importance and relevance of the page making it rank higher with fewer backlinks. A general rule of thumb is ‘more internal links = more importance’.

44.Quality of Internal Links Pointing to a Page

Not all internal links help SEO and rank pages higher in the SERPs. Only internal links from high authority pages on a website carry powerful relevance to another page.

For better results, visit Google Search Console to know what pages are getting the highest amount of traffic. Then try to place the internal links to the page you want to rank for using an exact match anchor text.

You can check internal link errors, issues and oher data with semrush.

45.Broken Links

You may have used broken links on other websites to build backlinks to your website. But what if your own websites have broken links, ever wondered about it?

Having many broken links to a page on a website can result in an abandoned site in the eyes of Google. Google uses broken links as a ranking factor to identify a page’s quality.

46.Reading Level

Google understands the reading level of content on millions of web pages. It used to give out reading-level statistics to the public in terms of Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. You may visit our SEO India page and experience the reading level.

“Basic” reading level is preferred by many SEOs as it appeals to a larger audience and is easy to understand.

47.Affiliate Links

There has been a myth revolving around the SEO industry that, affiliate links in content harm SEO and ranking, especially after the Google Core Algorithm Update.

It’s not the case always, surely if you have too many affiliate links on a page your site will get affected negatively.

48.HTML errors/W3C validation

A page loads slowly due to errors in HTML or bloat in software. This not only affects the page speed but also indicates low-quality signals that result in a drop in rankings.

It is better to have a simple fast loading website with fewer HTML lines and Javascript.

49.Domain Authority

Here the Domain Authority does not mean MOZ’s Domain Authority tool, but the authority that your website has in Google’s Algorithm.

There is no set way to measure Domain Authority but this can be said that websites with good backlinks and decent age are considered authoritative.

50.Page’s PageRank

This can be also said as Page Authority. This generally means that websites that have good Page Authority or more links outrank those that have less authority.

Even if your website has decent Domain Authority you can always rank well with Page Authority.
